Carla Brailey, Ph.D.

Carla Brailey, Ph.D., will be our speaker for June, and her topic will be social inequality.  Dr. Brailey is a native of Houston and an Assistant Professor at Texas Southern University in the Department of Sociology.  Dr Brailey’s courses address social inequality including social problems, social change and social movements, education, politics, religion and urban living.  Dr. Brailey is a regular presenter at national and international conferences.

In addition to her doctorate degree, Dr. Brailey has two Masters degrees: Divinity and Women’s Studies and Counseling Psychology.  She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice. Dr. Brailey is a dedicated leader and participant in the political process, as well as public service leadership, both in Washington, D.C. and in Houston.  Among her notable accomplishments, Dr. Brailey served in the former Mayor Adrian Fenty’s Cabinet as the Executive Director of Community Affairs in Washington, D.C.  Her achievements are too many to list in this short summary.  Please read more at Dr. Carla D. Through all of her accomplishments, Dr. Brailey is most proud of being a mother to her daughter, Marley J.
